Ceiling Fans of All Styles

Ceiling fans are a great way to keep your home cool during the summer months and reducing energy costs so you do not have to run your air conditioner at full blast. Your air conditioner will be happy to have a break (and you will happy to have a break on the bill!) with air circulating comfortably throughout your house with the help of a ceiling fan. Ceiling fans will keep you and your home cool amidst great energy-saving benefits and environmental value. Furthermore, the look of a ceiling fan is decorative and has value ornamentally, and can enhance the ambiance of your home!

Types of Ceiling Fans

Prior to purchasing a ceiling fan, you have to decide on the look you are going for. There are many different looks, believe it or not, for ceiling fans. As far as style goes, there are contemporary fans, more modern fans, and traditional fans. There are hugger ceiling fans, which keep very close to the ceiling if you do not have a high enough ceiling. There are damp-location ceiling fans, if you were looking to purchase this for a porch or patio ceiling. Then, there are small fans, medium fans, and large fans available. Smaller fans are perfect for a bedroom, while larger fans are ideal for a larger space. And of course, Lighting Expo has light kits and fan accessories and a whole array of other types of fans, from portable to fans on stands.

Then you must decide where to install it and how you will do so. You need to make sure that the room has enough clearance for the people passing underneath. This can be very dangerous if there is not enough clearance. For rooms with low ceilings you can see if a hugger fan is right for you. For rooms with very high ceilings, there are extension rods available to drop the fan lower. You need to take note of the size of the space you would like to install the fan. Smaller blades are available and are ideal to keep the room from looking overcrowded. Electrical wiring is tricky so if you aren't comfortable installing yourself, hire a professional for help.

Design of Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans are available for both indoor and outdoor use. The outdoor fans can be used indoors, but this does not go the other way; indoor fans are not for outdoor use. Outdoor fans were created with withstanding the elements in mind.

Indoor ceiling fans were designed with many different looks, different colors. You can get both a decorative piece and also a cooling system - not to mention a lighting system! Many fans are available with lights so that since the fan is up year round in your home, you can also use it as a method of lighting. Fans that did not come with lighting are still able to use a lighting kit to install the individual lights on your own and customize them how you see fit. You can also customize your fan with new blades, or add in a remote control option so that you can control on/off and speed features.

Operation and Efficiency of Ceiling Fans

While the design of a ceiling fan is important, you also need to consider how well the product operates and the efficiency versus operation. While the fan may cool your room, fans are not completely silent, sometimes there is a ticking from even the quietest of fans; will this bother you? Fans sometimes gather dust, you need to make sure you will be able to clean properly. Proper installation and selecting a fan with a quiet motor will help and having to clean the fan should not outweigh the benefits it will bring your household. Keep an eye out for the Energy Star logo to enjoy energy savings with your fan purchase!

Installation of Ceiling Fans

Generally, to install a ceiling fan, you should first measure to be sure the side is right for the room, height-wise and that the blades will run unobstructed. If you plan to use a wall switch to control the fan, make sure it's the proper switch, and likewise, only use a dimmer or remote with those fans that say it is designed for such use. Disconnect all wires, make sure the electrical box is attached properly, and make sure all wires are grounded. Observe all electrical codes and contact an electrician if you need assistance or if your homes' wiring is tricky.
